Sarah Kenealy

Sarah’s love of sport began at the age of 5 when she joined Chelmsford Hockey Club, working her way up the ranks to play for her school, county and the East of England. She also played netball for Billericay and represented Chelmsford Athletics Club in the 1500m and the long jump. It was here she laid the foundations for a varied sporting career both in her personal and professional life.

Having received her Diploma in Sports Development from Writtle College, Sarah went on to take her coaching qualifications in several sports including: Netball, Hockey & Athletics.

Sarah was approached by her old primary school to run PE lessons and after school sports clubs, this led to Sarah teaching PE lessons in primary and secondary schools across Essex. During school holidays Sarah ran sports clubs for Chelmsford City Council and Maldon District Council; working with their sports development teams.

With 4 years experience under her belt Sarah was then tasked to set up, promote and run a multi-skilled Saturday morning club for 6-10 year olds, funded by the local primary care trust with the aim of promoting physical activity to young children.

Having established the Activity Bug in South Woodham Ferrers Sarah was then asked to move onto the Health Improvement Team, specialising in children weight management for NHS Mid Essex, where she project managed national MEND (mind, exercise, nutrition, do it) (7-13yrs) and Mini MEND (2-4yrs) programmes locally; amongst other health initiatives in the community promoting healthy eating and exercise.

Whilst working for the NHS Sarah also found time to teach trampolining lessons for 8 years with an age range of 2-72 years young!

She also volunteered at a disability club on Saturday afternoons for Families in Focus for 5 years.

Sarah is also a mother of 2 young children who keep her on her toes!

Sally Holmes

Growing up in an active family there wasn’t a sport that Sally didn’t put her hand to. Having played on the school netball team, run and high-jumped into the athletics squad, taken part in tennis camps, Sally eventually settled into hockey as her sport of choice. Working her way up through the club, school and county ranks until she made it into East of England Academy.

After achieving a First Class Maths Degree at Bath University, Sally embarked upon an 8 year career in the city working for Goldman Sachs on one of the highly pressurized trading desks.

Deciding to take a break from the city to have her children Sally relocated back to Essex with her husband and two daughters.

Wanting her daughters to follow in her sporty footsteps and keen to find some classes to help burn some toddler energy Sally began looking for a range of classes to attend. Having attended several single sport focused classes Sally became frustrated that her daughter’s own sporting preferences and choices were pre-determined by whatever class her parents chose to send her to. With a particular interest to see her daughter pick up a hockey stick, she decided to found a multi-discipline sports class so that they could together explore a variety of sports and let her daughter discover her own sporting passion.

Having a structured activity class for young children is very important. Each week there will be a warm up, a main activity section and a cool down. The main activity section will focus on a different sport to allow the children the opportunity to try out and find their own sporting preferences.

The warm up is designed to help the children stretch and prepare the body and mind for physical activity. In the cool down we will use some young yoga poses to help the children relax and recognise the session is coming to an end.

Activitots has been a great success with our son William; he has really enjoyed learning different sports and having fun with other children. Such a great way to encourage them to try new things as well as help with their development

Freddie loves Activitots. It is great to give him an early introduction to so many different sports - I doubt very much we would have thought to send him to cricket lessons but he really took to it. We are excited to find out what else he might enjoy

mum to Freddie (age 2 1/2)

Our sons get bored with the same sport week in week out. Activitots allows them to experience a variety of sports and develop their gross motor skills in a fun and enjoyable way.
